来自阿留申语中的一个词，原写作Alaschka，意思为“广袤的大地”。因为对于生活在阿留申群岛上的土著居民来说，海峡对面的阿拉斯加的面积实在太大了。后来阿拉斯加一度并入俄国，一度被称为“PYCCKAR AMEPNKA"（大概是这么写的，不会俄语，有的字母打不出）。归入美国后，就以Alaska为名。
